Plastic is basically a swear word now. Its predicted that by 2050 there will be more plastic in the sea than fish. Disgusting. Plastic doesn’t disappear, it stays in our landfills and our seas forever. If your buy a bottle of water and simply throw that bottle in the bin then that plastic will be around longer than you, and your entire generations after you.
Doesn’t always need to be so miserable though. We can recycle plastic into so many different things now. One of which is fabric. We can make fabric from plastic bottles and its relatively simple. The process is very similar to using normal polyester in fabric.
The truth of the matter is plastic has become a super material, and sadly a lot of companies need plastic, BUT there’s other ways around it. We also need to use plastic to protect our garments from factory to customer, HOWEVER we use oxo-biodegradable polyethylene, it disappears after 365 days into water, with no harmful chemicals. Is it more expensive? Ever so slightly, but If I can manage to use this as a start-up brand, instead of normal plastic, then considering larger brands economy of scale and all that, then they can do it too.
